  1042 ET - Costco Wholesale is showing strong share gains, high-return opportunities for reinvestment, unit expansion prospects and gains in young households, but the gap between its valuation and those of its more traditional peers is too wide, Roth MKM analyst Bill Kirk says in a research note. Much is made of the stickiness of the membership model, and while Kirk doesn't disagree, he believes investors don't give enough credit to the stickiness and real estate advantages of conventional grocers. Competitors Sam's Club and BJ's are also increasing their internal investments, meaning the segment's performance and Costco's should converge toward conventional food retail, the analyst says.
