Biglari Holdings Inc. is a holding company. The Company owns various subsidiaries, which are engaged in a number of diverse business activities, including property and casualty insurance, licensing and media, restaurants, and oil and gas. Its restaurant operations are conducted through two subsidiaries, namely Steak n Shake Inc. and Western Sizzlin Corporation, which comprises of 552 Company-operated and franchise restaurants. Its insurance activities are conducted through two insurance entities: First Guard Insurance Company and its affiliated agency, 1st Guard Corporation, and Southern Pioneer Property & Casualty Insurance Company and its affiliated agency, Southern Pioneer Insurance Agency, Inc. Its insurance businesses provide insurance for property and casualty. The Company's Southern Oil Company primarily operates its oil and natural gas properties offshore in the shallow waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Its Abraxas Petroleum operates oil and gas properties in the Permian Basin.
