1759 ET - Guess's significantly increased marketing and advertising investments weren't enough to attract more consumers into their stores. The fashion retailer boosted its marketing spending by 85% in the third quarter, CEO Carlos Alberini says on a call with analysts. This growth includes higher investments in its Guess brand, rag & bone, and in Guess jeans. "Some initiatives will deliver swift results, while others will require more time," Alberini says. "Investments and marketing, for example, may not deliver immediate returns," he adds. Still, Guess is convinced there is a big opportunity for the brands to regain topline momentum by investing in marketing overall, and is also seeking external advice on its social-media approach. 1748 ET - Rag & Bone, Guess's latest acquisition, delivered lower-than-expected sales in the latest quarter, CEO Carlos Alberini says on a call with analysts. Some of that relates to a shift in the timing of wholesale shipments, Alberini says, adding that Guess now expects those shipments in the fourth quarter. So far for the year, the Rag & Bone brand is delivering double-digit sales growth, the executive adds. Overall, Guess is focused on delivering initiatives to expand the business through new stores, product category and international expansion, Alberini adds. (sabela.ojea@wsj.com; @sabelaojeaguix)

1743 ET - Guess's performance across Asia and North America missed management expectations in the latest quarter, especially on the direct-to-consumer side of the business, CEO Carlos Alberini says on a call with analysts. The executive even talks about "turning around" the company through enhanced marketing and customer-engagement efforts. "We are actively. working on this opportunity for the holidays as we speak," Alberini says. The company is also evaluating its pricing strategy given current consumer sentiment and the competitive promotional environment. Overall, the consumer is clearly more sensitive to price right now, the executive adds. Shares fall 11%, to $15.51.(sabela.ojea@wsj.com; @sabelaojeaguix)
