Companies Mentioned: UPS, AAPL, NKLA, LYFT, PLTR, LCID, BP, UBS, KLG, RDDT, DIS
By Anna Hirtenstein Apple (AAPL): The iPhone maker has been working on a chip to run artificial-intelligence software in data-center servers, The Wall Street Journal reported, a move that could give Apple an edge in the AI race. UBS (CH: UBSG, UBS): U.S.-listed shares of the Swiss bank rallied in premarket trading after it reported blockbuster earnings, including quarterly profit that was roughly triple Wall Street's forecast. Palantir Technologies (PLTR): The data-analytics company reported stronger-than-expected revenue, propelled by the AI frenzy, although growth in its U.S. commercial business slowed. Its shares slid in off-hours trading. Lucid (LCID): The electric-vehicle maker reported better-than-forecast sales, but a major portion of those came from the Saudi government, which is a big shareholder. The stock fell 8.5% premarket. United Parcel Service (UPS): The package-delivery giant's chief financial officer said he was departing to focus on his health. BP (UK:BP, BP): The British energy company posted a drop in profit due to lower oil and gas prices, missing analysts' estimates. Aramco (SA: 2222): Saudi Arabia's national oil company said its quarterly profit declined, also missing analysts' forecasts, because of lower crude volumes sold and weaker refining margins. Earnings coming up before the opening bell include Walt Disney (DIS), Nikola (NKLA) and WK Kellogg (KLG). After markets close, Lyft (LYFT) and Reddit (RDDT) are among those on the docket.
