1827 ET - The appointment of Elliott Hill as Nike's incoming CEO makes a lot of sense for the company, as he's known as a people person a great leader, Stifel analyst Jim Duffy tells WSJ. Stifel had considered him a potential CEO before John Donahoe took over the CEO role in 2020, Duffy says. "We were disappointed to see Elliott leave the organization in 2020," Duffy says. One of the first decisions Hill will likely make in the top job will be a shuffle of management, probably ahead of November's investor day, Duffy says, adding that Nike's C-Suite could also be target of changes. "Historically, Nike has shuffled senior leadership to lift talented executives ahead of investor days." (sabela.ojea@wsj.com; @sabelaojeaguix)

1821 ET - Nike's appointment of Elliott Hill as CEO is risky when it comes to looking into the present and future, Jefferies' analyst Randy Konik tells WSJ. Elliott is a great add for Nike from a culture perspective, but he's an old guard Nike veteran, Konik says. He left the company in 2020, and a lot of things have changed in the market ever since, including marketing and social media. Jefferies will give him the benefit of the doubt. "Most product changes to take place in 2025 calendar, particularly in spring 2025, so it's a wait and see approach." (sabela.ojea@wsj.com; @sabelaojeaguix)

1817 ET - Nike's appointment of company veteran Elliott Hill as CEO shows the struggling athletic company is looking for a return to greatness, rather than for a revolution, BMO Capital Markets Simeon Siegel tells WSJ. Nike's stock was suggesting the company needed a change, and Hill should now be focused on delivering real change, Siegel says. Consumers spending $200 to $300 on sneakers are the ones that allow Nike to sell more $75 shares, but the company has to set its efforts around gaining back every consumer now, Siegel adds. "Nike wins then it puts dollars behind stories and products, not when they cut them," the analyst says while discussing Nike's investment needs. Nike shares closed up 6.8% higher at $86.52.(sabela.ojea@wsj.com; @sabelaojeaguix)
