1431 GMT - TotalEnergies is holding the line on its cash returns to shareholders, which is likely to be seen as reassuring by investors, RBC Capital Markets analysts Biraj Borkhataria and Sadigh Latif Jalali say in a research note. The French energy major said it expects to continue buying back shares at a rate of $2 billion per quarter next year--cautioning that this expectation assumes reasonable market conditions--and to increase its dividend by at least 5%. "One of the key questions today will be around what environment constitutes 'reasonable,' and we would suspect this is somewhere in the region of $60-70 [a barrel], although we await commentary from management," the analysts say. TotalEnergies shares rise 2.75%, partially lifted by a jump in oil prices due to concerns about widening conflict in the Middle East. (adria.calatayud@wsj.com)
